Have lunch at the Real Food market in Covent Garden

Still two chances to go and try it: Thursday Sept 17 and 24, from noon.

Oh, you’ll find it quick, that’s sure – your mouth will waters 500 meters from it. Grilled meat, spices…

Where to start? Indian dishes from Gujarati Rasoi? Mezzes by Arabica Food and spices?Let yourself be succumb to the famous Maldon Oysters at the Oyster Stall? With a glass of wine from Urvan Wine? Or an organic apple juice from Chegworth Valley…? A slice of cheese from Neal’s…? Oh, the choice!

You could call it a savoury party. A fest of tastes and colours. Your bag will not big enough to fit the English honey, the truffle oils, the garlic from the Isle of Wight, the Pays Basque charcuterie, the foccaccias…

A special award to Pie Minister. How could you resist to this modern versions: As tasty as the name promises!Heidi is with goats cheese, the thia with curry and sweet potato. Crunchy pastry, served with homemade mash and a splendid gravy. One is enough for two if you’re planning on a desert… You’ll also find them @ the Borough market.

I have been disappointed, though, by the well reknowned Crumbs and Doilies. Cute, for sure. but take away the icing and the cake is a bit bland to me. The lavender icing is really nice. A point goes to the lemon cake too – nice touch to have added zests. However, if you really want to be amazed, rush to Ella’s less than a minute walk from there.

Finish with a mini tiramisu or a pannacotta at The Dessert Deli. At £1/portion, why not treat yourself to an assortment? Oh, and add one of her yummy tartlets too….

A market to treasure. Let’s hope they will keep it further than September!

Only one negative point: you’re supposed to be standing. Why not add tables and chairs…? Thanksfully, the Actor’s Church is nearby and has a lovely garden. For a nice coffee, try Monmouth!

Psssst: if you’re allergic to gluten, try the gluten-free brownies by Sugar Grain…

Oh no! We REALLY disagree on the Crumbs and Doilies v Ella’s cupcake debate. My experiences with Ella’s have left me out of pocket and with no cupcake – both times I tried them the vanilla cupcake was either stale or tasteless and inedible.
I’ve had a few cupcakes from C&D and they’re always really nice and very tasty. I find their flavours of the month inspired and very flavoursome. And they’re always so pretty too!

Ah, wonderful to have different feedback too!

I haven’t tried the vanilla cupcake – maybe it’s not one of Ella’s best? I have focused on more fragrant icings. I seem to have been luckier.

As for C&D, I do agree with you. Yes they’re lovely creations! Yes, they’re inspired! I love their cupcake of the month decorations, so cool. I do find the icing flavoursome but expect more of the cake, whihc I find a bit bland.

But again, as for Ella’s maybe it’s a matter of finding the right one? C&D’s lemon wasn’t too bad. You at least convinced me to give them another try!
