5 out-of-the-ordinary Valentine ideas

You are lost for inspiration. The classics, you have already considered or done the previous years. Huge bourquet of red roses and bottle of champagne, done. London Eye or thames cruise, done.
What you need is something a little bit different, that would show you have spent some time thinking about it, not gone for the obvious option. But anything you google looks so cliché…

Here are a few ideas that might help you out:

  • A cinema would be a bit lame – more what we used to do as students. But do try the Secret Cinema – the wow effect is guaranteed. Not just a mere film, but a whole evening of entertainment. The title will be secret until the very last minute, a simple but fun dress code will be advised. The address is different each time and a whole mystery floats around the event. Having tried it a numbe of times, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed: the atmosphere and scenes of the movie will be recreated, you can sip on a glass of wine during the projection and it always ends with a DJ so you can dance your night away. You will leave with stars in your eyes. there are still tickets available for February 14th!
  • Try the art card but with a romantic angle with A Unique proposal. A room transformed as a gorgeous wedding reception and decorated with art pieces. Hearts made of mosaics, chocolate sculptures by the famous Sir Hans Sloane, vegetal inspired fabrics, inventions made of 50ies objects… romantic but not boring.

  • Laugh is often the key to seduction. Head for the hendricks pop up! Vintage but funny atmosphere, amazing advices on the Victorian flirting art (like decoding a fan gesture). Knowhing Hendricks events, you are in for a smile if not a giggle. All of this with the perfect G&T. And free! (Feb 10-14, register on the website)

Looking for a very special gift? Order this limited edition by Rob Ryan (the famous paper lace cutter) – it says it better than any Valentine card would…

Add a cocktail for a bubbly evening. Why not have London at your feet at Vertigo 42?

Or chicissime at the Savoy?

If you need extra help restaurant-wise, you can bet on a delicious time at:

  • Pescheria (for Valentine’s day, you will even get an exquisite cooking kit) – their fish dishes are to die for. And what better help than a singing Italian accent to create a romantic atmosphere? Amore!
  • Moti Mahal, the most elegant and exotic Indian restaurant in town…
  • The Comptoir Gascon, to add a French and sunny touch to your evening…
  • Café Luc, a modern bistrot, the perfect service, gorgeous and creative dishes. Do not leave without trying the Nutella crème brûlée – unforgettable (but even if it sounds romantic, don’t even think of sharing that one. Hands off!)

Don’t forget to book ahead…
