Goldie’s Kids are a riot at the Maverik Showroom

The Maverick showroom welcomes Goldie’s latest exhibition – and no, the guy is not just a DJ God. His work flirts with graffitis but more importantly screams about youth violence, the loss of values. It’s all in the title: Kids are all riot… Looking at each painting, the feeling of rage is so real – what a contrast between details of a still innocent world like a funfair and the anger changing a kid’s face, or the accessories leading to a more adult world, aerosol, weapon…
But still, to Goldie, graffiti are not a negative symbol. He himself started as a street artist, was supported by his Art teacher – his efforts paid: the Art Council help him fund his first exhibition at 18… He makes a point of meeting teenagers and young street artists and explains them how to go further than a simple tag, how to bring balance and a message to their work.
And what better place for this new show than Shoreditch where so many well know Street Artists, who do live from their passion, express themselves already?
