Breakfast treats with Alpro – Deskfest #1

Every morning, when the alarm clock sings (screams?), it immediately feels like a race. Fix the kids’ breakfast, check the school bags and pack lunches, straighten up their uniform, jump into clothes, try to look like a human being, wrap up in coat and scarf, put everyone in the car, unload at the childminder, hurry to work. And finally sit at your desk with having had an espresso at most which means that by 10am, you will be starving and falling for chocolate. So when Alpro proposed a Deskfest, I couldn’t resist the idea.  Why not start the year by being just a little more organised? The day always starts with reading emails and I could enjoy the moment by sipping on a healthy smoothie and delicious treats prepared the previous evening. The challenge is to present 5 examples on the blog to inspire you too: put the pleasure back into week day breakfasts, keeping it balanced and healthy (superfood, fruit and veg, Alpro products…). And you know what? It actually proved easy and fun. Here is the first one!

I am in a winter mood -  I need sweetness and nuttiness. In a blender, I mixed liquid honey, a generous dose of grilled sesame seeds, one banana, a spoonful of cinnamon and 250ml Alpro almond milk. The latter makes the drink much lighter than normal milk would while not compromising on taste and wow, such a lovely foam on top! If you are fixing this in the morning -  it only takes two minutes – put your sliced fruit in the freezer inn advance, this way your smoothie will keep fresher longer (particularly helpful if you do not have a fridge at work). As for snacks, I tried corn fritters. Nothing easier, really: just mix 50g flour, 1 egg, 50ml Alpro milk (soya, almond or hazelnut -  all three work fine for this recipe) and 350g tinned corn. Pour a few dollops in a very hot frying pan, leave to cook for 4mn and that’s it. Gorgeous dipped in a citrus sauce: almond single cream, lime and lots of coriander. So very tasty and perfect to make your colleagues hungry (probably slightly jealous too).
