Ever heard of breakfast raves? Forget a rushed cup of coffee and toast before commuting. You’ll need to get up earlier, go to a secret location but there, oh, there will be cool treats and maybe yoga or fun exercising or maybe a DJ and dancing. Before your 9 to 5, you have actually lived. You’re smiling and re-energised.
I arrived in Camden super early. So early there was actually no-one in the streets – it came as quite a shock to see it deserted when it usually is crowded with tourists. Barely recognisable. Really, there is that much space? The Cereal Killer Cafe, Brick Lane’s world famous cereal bar, has just opened another branch here. More playful, more colourful too. It’s easy to find – right in the middle of The Stables Market is a row of deckchairs… That’s it. You have reached your destination. Fun ahead! Shelves filled with cereal boxes, classical and super-special ones, from Coco Pops to Frozen. On the blackboard, magnetic letters, anonymous note style, describes funky recipes. Like, mmmh. Rice Krispies, jelly and strawberries, which kind of makes your mouth water straight away. You can add extra toppings (banana, nuts, maltesers and more) and even choose a fancy milk. Further on, you will see vintage boxes (Gremlin, ET, Mr T, Kiss), cartoons and Saved by the Bell videos, Spice Girls wallpaper and really cool tables with beds as benches. And retro duvets – mine was Mario Kart themed! Breakfast in bed at a brand new level.
The party today was hosted with Alpro. A huge buffet offered their whole yogurt range to be customised with fresh fruit, granola, seeds, cacao, anything your heart could desire. I couldn’t help but go straight to my favourite, coconut yogurt, and add mango, mint and chia seeds. Simply delicious! Another counter was piled high with fruit kebabs, smoothies, bircher mueslis (pomegranate and papaya, anyone? Or coconut-hazelnut and pecans?) but also two Cereal Killer Cafe special recipes: Don’t have a cinnamon (Curiously Cinnamon, Golden Grahams, Apple Zings, honey and Alpro hazelnut milk) as well as Chocopotamus (Coco Pops, Krave, Kinder Happy Hippo) particularly delicious with Alpro’s dark chocolate hazelnut milk. Oh wow.
Next stop? For this breakfast rave, you could get your nails done or your hands massaged before burning a few calories on the dance floor.
