Two weeks ago, The Big Issue announced their vendors simply could not continue selling the magazine on the streets: it simply was no longer safe for them to do so. A difficult decision to take: the Coronavirus outbreak makes it unsafe for them to do so, the lockdown had already cut their earnings and they were now out of a job.
Finally, a glimmer of hope: for the first time in the magazine’s 29-year history, The Big Issue is now available to buy from Sainsbury’s and 1,400 McColl’s shops around the country. Go on. Show some love. Of the £3 price, 50 per cent of net proceeds will go into a vendor support fund. The other half will make it possible for the foundation to continue supporting their community. Alternatively, why not subscribe online and never miss one?
Cherry on the cake: this week’s edition includes an interview of David Attenborough.
