DIY: make your own paper plant

Did you, like me, rethink your whole decoration during this lockdown? Tidied everything, made your living room a place to cocoon and relax in? In my mind was this perfect picture of a window sill filled with luscious plants… A double challenge, really. The garden centres by mine are closed for one. And while I do reasonably well with a garden, between working from home, homeschooling and cooking for 4, I consistently forget watering pots. A collection of cactuses seemed to be my best bet… until this adorable paper plant DIY came my way.

And so I gathered card, craft knife and florist wire. I printed the templates on a vibrant green shade, cut the pattern, attached them to the stems with the masking tape. Arranging in a planter, simply planting each creation in small polystyrene block proved such a peaceful, appeasing activity – similar, in a way to Ikebana. I will admit to being a little addicted, dreaming of bigger leaves, different shapes…

And so the collection will grow, joined by flowers and foliage collected along our daily forest walk. I will get the kids involved to do their own, colouring or painting the paper leaves. Maybe make a few more to give the school teachers, who have been so supportive through all this, grandparents when we can finally travel and celebrated being together. In the meantime, we will cosy up at home and add a little creativity to the day.

If you give this a try, do send me pictures!
