A floating hotel with a communal spirit. Not only do they train and employ long-term unemployed people in the local community, every good night’s sleep helps a disadvantaged child go to school for a week. It’s a lovely place to relax too, with laid-back vibe. All rooms come with a view of the river, interiors inspired by Dutch design and a walk-in rain shower.

3. Hub by Premier Inn
The equivalent to Japanese capsule hotels. A relaxing Hypnos bed, an high-powered monsoon shower and a cool touch screen control panel to change the lighting and temperature – compacted in a functional, stylish room. Small price but super central locations!

Did you know Ibis has three types of hotels? Normal, Budget and Style. The latter offer the perfect compromise when it comes to price, comfort and design, with each address featuring a different theme. 5. Kip Hotel
Set in vibrant Hackney Kip Hotel offers minimalist interiors hyped with funky lighting, prints and wallpaper. 6. New Road Hotel
This former textile factory, nestled in Whitechapel, was originally designed by architect Hume Victor Kerr: his modern architectural style is still quite present in the area, as you will see when exploring the neighbourhood. The building is now home to a superb boutique hotel with industrial-chic inspired rooms. Think sleep, opulent, heart-stealing decor. We love the exposed brickwork and flow of natural daylight… It’s a lovely place to explore too: Marco Pierre White restaurant, elegant cocktail bar, game room on the first floor. library on the second and yoga room at top level. Oh and you can grab free unlimited tea, coffee and hot chocolate from vending machine. Perfect.

7. Plgrm Hotel
A gorgeous Victorian-era building brought back to life as a smart but affordable hotel. It’s a real gem, with clean lines, chalkboards, exposed brick, greenery and occasional nods to its glorious past. The rooms are absolutely charming and come up with dream bespoke beds, aluminium-and-brass lamps (salvaged from a former hospital) and metro-tiled bathrooms.

8. Point A Hotels
A chain dedicated to offer guests a sense of style without a huge price tag. In other words: a minimalist approach, a boutique feel and a calming ambience. All rooms feature luxury Hypnos beds with fabric headboards, power showers, mood lighting and a 40 inch smart TV. The space is well designed to fit all the essentials, leave you some space and make you feel at home.
9. Qbic hotel
A stylish, affordable eco-hotel. Very few put as much heart into it: all furniture is pre and re-loved, electricity comes from solar panels on the roof, showers use rain water, mattresses are made from renewable and sustainable resources… and anyone staying more than one night and choosing not to have their room serviced can claim a free drink at the bar. The rooms, elegant with vibrant touches of colour, are particularly inviting. No frills there but really comfy, spacious, modern rooms with even a desk to work from. The family rooms are usually priced the same as the standard double/twin rooms. You’d be hard pressed to find a cheaper family room in central London!
